Getting in and Around Bilbao

Getting around

Bilbao enjoys an excellent public transport system that includes a modern subway, trams and buses.  Its metro trains run every two to five minutes and run all night on a Saturday.  The buses are reliable but only run until 23:00.

Authorised taxis have a fixed minimum fare plus they charge per kilometre and time and display an available sign.

Getting into the City:

There is no rail transfer from the airport. You can get into the city either by bus, private transfer, or taxi.

The green airport buses can be found outside the Arrivals hall and depart for the city every 20 minutes in summer and every 30 minutes in winter.  The service runs from 06:15 to 23:15.  Tickets are purchased from the driver and one way will cost €1.45.  The airport bus stops at Gran Via 79, Plaza Moyua and Alameda Recalde 11.

There is a minimum fare plus a charge for time plus kilometre travelled.  Each taxi is fitted with a fare meter.

Private transfer:

If you are travelling as a family you may find that a private transfer is more convenient as you are met in the Arrivals hall and taken directly to your accommodation.
