Playa de Burriana is Nerja’s most popular beach.  You well see why when you visit.  It has 800 meters of golden fine, sand.  It has a tremendous amount of shops along its promenade; plenty of children’s play areas, sunbeds, café’s and restaurants that sell amazing paella.  There are taverns for the odd beer or glass of vino too.  One of the guys who discovered the Nerja Caves in 1959 has a beach bar on this beach; apparently, he is renowned for his tasty paella.

The Papagayo Beach is compact within a tranquil cove.  It has beautiful crystal blue-green clear waters, luscious bays and breath taking scenery. You will find this beach close to tapas bars and restaurants.  Therefore you don’t need to walk far to enjoy a sumptuous lunch or a light refreshment.

El Salon Beach (Playa el Salon)

One of the best beaches, favoured by the locals is the El Salon Beach.  It is quite a cosy size around 200 meters by 20 meters.  Due to its popularity, it becomes quite crowded during the summer months.  However, it does have all the facilities you could possibly want, such as showers, changing facilities, toilets, a summer lifeguard, sunbeds and a small kiosk for snacks and drinks.

The beautiful beach of Playa de la Cala el Canuelo is absolutely breath taking.  It is a reasonably quiet beach as locals and tourists are put off by it being a protected area.  You have to be taken down to the beach in one of the authorised shuttle buses as no private vehicles are allowed.

However, the journey down to the bottom is well worth the trip.  You can see your toes in the water, it is that clear.  If you are a little adventurous, with your swimming, you can swim out to numerous coves.  You will discover virtually deserted beach coves and underwater coves too.  It is a children’s and an adult’s paradise.
