The
following links are to specific information about marine
resources issues in SPC member countries and territories.
In some
cases these are simply alternative routes to country fisheries
information existing elsewhere on the website, or they may be
links to other websites catalogued here for convenience. In some
cases these links will lead to information catalogued only under
this heading. Just remember that we make no pretence at providing
an overview of each country, or even a comprehensive array of
information. This is simply a "grab-bag" for placing
information as it comes to hand.
The Asian Development Bank has published on its
website the excellent country-by-country estimation of the "Contribution of
Fisheries to
Pacific Island Economies" that it commissioned from Bob Gillett and Chris
Lightfoot.
The FAO
country fisheries profiles for Oceania are also available. For some more general stuff, the
Pacific Islands Development Programme in Hawaii has an excellent
Pacific Island links page.
Additionally worth mentioning here is
the
Ethnologue Pacific pages.
Please note that some
of the links to other websites, that are contained in these pages, are
also mirrored on the SPC website via an alternative link. This is not for the
purpose of avoiding copyright (!) but so this information can be accessed by SPC
staff on the intranet during working hours when live access to the internet is
turned off (we don't have the bandwidth to allow 100 staff full-time live access). If you are accessing our site from outside SPC, we urge you to
use the internet link to the originating website. Direct material is likely to
be more up-to-date anyway.
