Welcome to Aquaculture in the Pacific region

Our goal:

provide a Pacific Island forum dedicated to promoting “economically, socially and environmentally sustainable aquaculture development among Pacific communities”.

And purpose:

· Be a virtual focal point for aquaculture networking in the Pacific Islands.
· Serve as an information clearing-house mechanism.
· Highlight best practices for aquaculture development.

Aquaculture has had a chequered history in the Pacific with many initiatives that had not borne fruit in terms of sustainable outcomes. Now it appears that the tide has turned and that past investment are beginning to pay off. New, viable industries are beginning to be established and are returning substantial economic and social benefits. Hopefully this web-site will help to contribute to the progress of aquaculture.

This site is maintained by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) an inter-governmental organisation with twenty-two Pacific Island members. Click on map below for an enlarged version of the SPC region.
