Linda Petersen is the new head of SPC’s Pacific Women’s Bureau.

Linda Petersen, from the Fiji Islands, is no stranger to development and gender equality issues in this part of the world. She brings more than a decade of UN work to her new role, and leaves the job of Millennium Development Goals Coordinator and Assistant Resident Representative for the UNDP’s Fiji multi-country office in Suva to take up her Noumea-based position. Gender sensitivity training for trainers in Tuvalu

A training on gender sensitivity was conducted in Funafuti, Tuvalu, 2-6 May 2005. Gender sensitivity training is considered a basic process, targeting policy makers, decision-makers in the various sectors, civil societies and the community at large. It is designed to bring about an attitudinal change within the lives of the participants, and personal reflections are a major part of the training. Read more...


CEDAW reporting workshops in New Caledonia

PWB completed during the last week of July 2005 two workshops on CEDAW reporting in New Caledonia.

Pacific Delegations meet in New York
During the formal opening of the Conference, the UN UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan presented a comprehensive report assessing progress towards meeting the commitments made in 1995, and then five years ago at the Beijing + 5 special session of the General Assembly in 2000.
