WFP, FAO Partner with Haiti to Combat Hunger for Sustainable Development

22 June 2012: Haiti’s President Michel Martelly has announced a partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) to expand the country’s national school meals programme, combat malnutrition and assist farmers’ access to markets. Announcing the partnership at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), representatives stressed that sustainable development is not possible if hunger and malnutrition are present.
The WFP will extend its nutrition programmes for an additional 500,000 mothers and children, as well as expand the school meals programme with more locally procured food. [WFP Press Release]
