PIFS Workshop Encourages Collaboration with Smaller Island States

10 February 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) hosted a planning workshop for Pacific Plan Desk Officers to encourage collaboration between Smaller Island States (SIS) and the work of PIFS. The Pacific Plan is the Pacific Island Countries (PICs) cooperative framework for addressing economic growth, sustainable development, good governance and security.

The workshop, held from 7-10 February 2012, in Suva, Fiji, highlighted activities within PIFS Programmes and other agencies from the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP), and assisted Desk Officers in developing individual country work programmes for 2012.

Neroni Slade, PIFS Secretary General, said Desk Officers’ role is to support the Secretariat and to facilitate, coordinate and implement at the national level, decisions of SIS and Forum Leaders under the Pacific Plan.

Participants in the workshop included Pacific Plan Desk Officers from the Cook Islands, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. [PIFS Press Release] [About the Pacific Plan]
