Blue Economy Summit 19 - 20 January 2014

The ‘Blue Economy Summit’ was held on 19-20 January 2014 during the Sustainability Week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to address the unique climate and sustainable challenges facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and marine ecosystems, where 180 participants from governments and organisations from around the world were present.

The Blue Economy Summit was co-hosted by the Government of Seychelles and UAE. The Summit adopted Blue Economy Summit Declaration which, among others, recognized that the concept of Blue Economy is founded upon research, assessment and data sharing, its further conceptual development and refinement as a distinct tool is needed to be on the international sustainable development agenda including the elaboration of Sustainable Development Goals that recognize the importance of the Blue Economy for sustainable Development.
