Using your Personal Share

We all know it is important to save files as we work on them. This means that if there is a problem, perhaps a power cut or computer crash, we can easily recover our recent work. But it also pays to be careful where you save your files. The preferred location for saving files is on your personal share. The personal share has a storage capacity of 50Mbytes which is similar to 50 diskettes. This is alot of storage space and should be sufficient for your important work documents. The path for your personal share is \\staff\your_username

You will have 50Mbytes of file storage on the server that will include your mail space and user directory, which is inclusive of your web directory. You can access your personal share by mapping to it in the usual manner, the path would be \\staff\username

Files placed in the 'www' directory should be available via the web at this web address staff.usp.ac.fj/~username

You will be able to browse and download files from your personal web space.

Note the filenames of files in your personal share will be case-sensitive. This should be taken into consideration when moving files across.

When you use 75% of your disk quota (soft quota), which is 37.5Mbytes of file space, you will receive a warning notification to alert you of the usage. If you ignore the warning message and do not take any action, you will most likely lock your account when the disk usage reaches the 100% (hard quota) limit. When this happens you should contact the Helpdesk for assistance.

To avoid such incidents, take precautionary measures and clear your disk space as soon as you receive the warning notice.
