Installing Windows Updates

ITS has implemented a system of deploying Windows update services locally from an Intranet server.  It is essential that your operating system is kept current with the latest security patches.   Flaws in parts of the operating system (and many applications) can allow your systems to be misused or broken by hackers or virus creators.  Sometimes you may not know your system has been compromised until it is too late.

To prevent this from happening, it is important to install the newly released patches as they become available.  Many attacks are against vulnerabilities that Microsoft have already released patches for - a patch is a software fix for a known bug or other problem.  Simply installing the patch(es) in a timely manner can be a life saver.

Installing the Windows updates

  1. After you login to Windows using your Laucala account, you will be prompted with this message when new Windows update are available; "New Windows update available".

  2. You are required to click on this callout when it appears rather than ignore it.

  3. After clicking on the callout, the Automatic Updates windows will appear.  Click on Install to begin the installation.

  4. It will install the updates.

  5. When it has completed the installation, the Restart your computer to Finish window will appear. Click on Yes, to restart your computer.
