The class share is a network facility that can be made available to teaching staff to post their lecture notes, announcements and other teaching aids for their students to access over the network locally or via the Internet.
This facility is available on the student website and can be accessed by students remotely from anywhere outside USP. Students at the other campuses and centres can also access it from their centres via the web, on this web addres; www.student.usp.ac.fj
To use the facility, the teaching staff can call or email the Help Desk requesting for a class share. The following details has to be provided in this request:
- name of the course unit (e.g. AF201)
- staff username
Once the request is received, the class share will be created and write access will be assigned to the staff. This will allow only that staff to save files to the share. However, he or she will be required to login to the LAUCALA domain to be able to map to the class share on the student server. The path for the share is \\kula\name of the unit, for example; \\kula\af201 for AF201 unit.
To map to the class share:
- Right-click on My Computer icon.
- Select Map Network drive option.
- Accept whatever drive appears
- In the folder or path type the course number, for example; \\kula\af201 for AF201 unit.
- Click on Finish or OK
- Once the drive is connected, it will appear in a Window on your screen. You can also access it from My Computer.
- This network drive is like any other drive on your PC, where you can copy, paste and delete files from.
At the end of the Academic year the contents of all the class share is deleted since there is limited storage space on the student server. The lecturers concerned are responsible for saving materials they wish to use again and should be done as soon as the second semester examinations are over.
Please contact the helpdesk on telephone extension 2117 or email at helpdesk(at)usp.ac.fj for further enquiries.
