- What are network shares?
These are storage spaces on the server, which is accessible via the network. Common uses of network shares are for storage of files and for distribution of material eg student course materials

- How do I map to a network drive?
Windows 95/98
- Right-click on My Computer icon on the desktop.
- In the drop down menu select Map Network Drive.
- Accept whatever drive is available.
- In the path, type the full path of the network share, \\PC number\sharename
- Click OK to connect
If successful a window of the mapped share should open up on the desktop. Otherwise, check in My Computer for the network.
Windows 2000 & XP
You should have already logon to the PC with your Laucala account. As well as your account should have access permissions to the network share you are trying to map to.
- Open My Computer by double-clicking on the icon.
- On the menu bar click on Tools
- Select Map Network Drive
- Don’t worry about the Drive. Windows automatically assign this.
- Next in the folder box type the path to the network share. The usual format \\PC number\sharename
- Click on Finish to connect.
Once the drive has successfully been mapped you will see an icon for the mapped drive in My Computer

- I cannot map to a network share, what could be wrong?
- It is either the PC number or sharename that maybe wrong. Check these details.
- Another possibility is that you do not have necessary permissions to access the network share.

- What does “Unable to browse the network” mean?
This means that your PC is not connected to the network.

- How can I tell if my PC is connected to the network?
Click on Start, Run and type ping 144.120.8.1 Observe the screen, if you see “Replying …..” this means that your PC has network connectivity. If it displays "Request timeout...." then it means that your PC is not connected to the network.

- What is a Class Share?
A class share is a network storage facility that can be made available to teaching staff to post their lecture notes, announcements and other teaching aids for their students. Students will be able to access it over the network locally or via the Internet.
At the beginning of the 1st Semester each year, the content of all class shares is deleted. You will be responsible for making backup of your class share. You also have the option of informing the Help Desk if you wish to keep the contents of your respective class share for use in that Semester.

- How do I access the Class Share facility as Lecturer?
Only staff members on Laucala Campus will be able to access the class share.
After logging onto Laucala domain,
- Open My Computer by double-clicking on the icon.
- On the menu bar click on Tools
- Select Map Network Drive
- Beside folder, type \\kula\name of the unit, for example; \\kula\af201 for AF201 unit.
- Click on Finish

- How will my students access the class share facility?
- They need go to the student website, www.student.usp.ac.fj
- Log on using their student username and password
- Click on the Class share link, a list of all the available class shares will be displayed.
- Select the unit they wish to view.
