Configuration of Pegasus

Introduction

The 32-bit Windows version of Pegasus Mail provides a facility for email familiar to users. This document describes the configuration of Pegasus Mail . Pegasus Mail for Windows is available for download.

First-time Configuration of Pegasus Mail

 

  1. When you first run Pegasus Mail, you may see the following dialogue - click the Next button to proceed. If you don't see this dialogue, Pegasus Mail may already be configured - in this case, skip to the section below on Modifying an Existing Pegasus Mail Configuration.

  2. On the next screen, enter your email address then click on the Next button, for example:

  3. On the next screen, enter the University POP3 server, pop3.usp.ac.fj then click on the Next button.



  4. On the next screen, enter the name of the University SMTP server, mail.usp.ac.fj for outgoing mail.  Then click on the Next button:



  5. On the next screen, enter the type of connection you want to use. Set this to Network unless you are a dial-up user who wants Pegasus Mail to initiate a dial-up connection when the program is started up:



  6. On the next screen, just click the Finish button:

Modifying an Existing Pegasus Mail Configuration

If Pegasus Mail has already been configured, you can view or modify its configuration via the Tools, Options menu option:

  1. Click Tools, Options
  2. Under General settings, select Basic settings
    1. Enter the user's personal name followed by comma and dept
  3. Retain the 5 options that are already selected below
  4. Under the Name for default mail folder, click on Select folder
  5. Create a new folder called Main Folder
  6. Double-click on Main Folder



  7. Select Advanced settings
    1. In the Organization string box, type USP



  8. Click on Tools menu and select Internet Options
    1. In the General settings, type in the email address



  9. Click on the Receiving tab
    1. POP3 host: pop3.usp.ac.fj
    2. Type in the username
    3. Leave the password box blank and allow the user to type in the password whenever he starts Pegasus
    4. Select "Delete mail from host..."
    5. Select "Check host for new..."



  10. Click on the Sending mail tab,
    1. SMTP host: mail.usp.ac.fj
    2. Select "Use the email..."
    3. Select "Send mail at once..."
    4. Retain the other two options as it is



  11. Click OK.
  12. Exit Pegasus Mail.
  13. Pegasus Mail is ready for use.
