27 August 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) held a two-day agro-forestry training for 30 Tonga and ni-Vanuatu agroforestry students in Eua, Tonga, from 23-24 August 2012. 29 August 2012: The Nguna-Pele Marine and Land Protected Area network (NPMLPA) announced the fourth new Marine Protected Area (MPA) established in the last two months on Vanuatu, with the latest MPA established on 29 August 2012,  in the village of Woralapa on Nguna Island.  According to NPMLPA, staff assisted in developing an MPA management plan for Woralapa and establishing a four-member conservation committee. 22 August 2012: The Government of Vanuatu has officially announced its decision to join the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), by endorsing the IUCN Statutes, with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources designated as its liaison with the IUCN Secretariat.
