9 October 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has released two reports, titled “Tracking the Effectiveness of Development Efforts in the Pacific,” and the “Pacific Regional Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Tracking Report.” Both reports were endorsed by Pacific leaders at the Pacific Island Forum Leaders meeting, which convened in August 2012, in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

5 October 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has announced that Niue will have access to US$4 million in funding from the Pacific Environment Community (PEC) for a national solar power initiative.
According to PIFS, the project, which is titled “Design, Manufacture & Installation of Solar Power Grid Connected Generators & Battery Backed Power Stabilizer,” anticipates annual savings of NZ$137,000, as well as an annual reduction of 329 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions....

28 September 2012: On the fifth day of the High-level Debate of the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Tuvalu and Papua New Guinea addressed the Assembly. Both Pacific small island developing States (SIDS) underscored the urgent need to address climate change.
