2 February 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) jointly celebrated World Wetlands Day (WWD) 2012 around the theme of wetlands and tourism, with the goal of advancing sustainable tourism development in wetlands. Other organizations also marked the Day, which is celebrated on 2 February each year, the anniversary of the 1971 adoption of the Ramsar Convention.

23 January 2012: The seventh UK-Caribbean Ministerial Forum, which was organized under the theme “Sustainable Growth Toward Prosperity,” concluded with the adoption of a 31-point action plan. 25 January 2012: An inter-agency report, titled “Green Economy in a Blue World,” concludes that the ecological health and economic productivity of marine and coastal ecosystems can be enhanced from well-managed marine sectors.

The 11th meeting of the contracting parties (COP 11) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat will be preceded by the 44th meeting of Standing Committee planned for 4 July 2012, and an additional day of regional meetings on 5-6 July 2011, as requested by many Contracting Parties.
