The seventh meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Conference of the Parties serving as Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety is tentatively scheduled to be held from 6-10 October 2014. Among other issues, the meeting is expected to address: handling, transport, packaging and identification (HTPI) of living modified organisms (LMOs); risk assessment and risk management; and socio-economic considerations. 1 February 2013: In commemoration of World Wetlands Day, David Sheppard, Director General, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), has highlighted the role of wetlands in the Pacific. In his address, he describes wetlands as the natural infrastructure for managing water, as they store and provide the water for human consumption and production needs.
