18 February 2013: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced that the Government of Denmark has provided US$4 million for the development of clean and sustainable energy in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Palau, the Marshall Islands (RMI), Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The finance has been provided through the Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) DOCK mechanism.

At this meeting, Tonga will share its Tonga Energy Road Map 2010-2020 (TERM) that “explores different pathways and action items required to achieve the aspirational target of doubling the share of renewables in the global energy mix as defined under the UN Secretary-General Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative.” The Summit will also focus on regionalism and how best the Pacific Islands can work with the development partners involved in energy.
