4 May 2012: The second round of “informal informal” consultations on the draft outcome document for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) made some progress in clarifying positions and finding compromise text, and agreed on 21 paragraphs ad referendum (pending agreement on the final text). The Partnership Forum, to be held from 20-22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will consist of sessions showcasing the contributions of partnerships to the implementation of sustainable development. The Bureau of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) announced, on 4 May 2012, that an additional week of informal informal consultations on the UNCSD outcome document would take place from 29 May-2 June 2012. In my view, the Green Economy debate must be linked to sustainable development resulting from both a realistic reflection of the current situation and a desirable vision for the future. It should have an attainable goal based on a mutual agreement and should address the need to continue reducing the gap between developed and developing countries while promoting peace, progress and justice for all.
