18 June 2012: The UN World Tourism Organization has released a report titled “Challenges and Opportunities for Tourism in Small Island Developing States” (SIDS), which confirms tourism as an essential source of job opportunities, livelihoods, foreign exchange and inclusive growth for SIDS. 2 February 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) jointly celebrated World Wetlands Day (WWD) 2012 around the theme of wetlands and tourism, with the goal of advancing sustainable tourism development in wetlands.
