SIDS Policy and Practice
22 November 2010: Participants in a subregional consultation for Smaller Island States (SIS), held from 17-19 November 2010, in Nadi, Fiji, discussed and endorsed the SIS Action Plan on Supporting Women’s Participation in Decision-making Processes, identifying priorities for the next five years.
The subregional plan is expected to be tabled at the next SIS Officials and Leaders meeting for their consideration and political endorsement.

The rational of this initiative is to enable the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices between SIDS in the Pacific and the Caribbean, in order to find suitable solutions and replicate best practices for addressing the various threats posed by climate change and natural disasters.

Port-au-Prince – Haiti and the Dominican Republic kicked off a joint project last month to increase vegetation cover and improve living conditions for people on both sides of the countries’ shared border.
The two neighbours, sharing the island of Hispaňola, launched a four-year project, Green Border (Frontera Verde, in Spanish), to reduce high levels of natural disaster risk for local inhabitants along the border that runs through several rivers and watersheds.
