15 January 2013: UN Member States have been asked to send written submissions of their views on lessons learned from the past 20 years of the work of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), in preparation for its final session (CSD 20), convening later this year. In consultations hosted by the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan, chair of CSD 20, delegates also discussed the agenda, duration, and timing of CSD 20.

December 2012: Comoros, Fiji and Haiti responded to a questionnaire on the development of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform, hosted by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), posted governments’ responses to the 12 questions contained in the questionnaire, which came from 61 Member States and the EU and its Member States.

On 21 November, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon nominated Wu Hongbo, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, as the Secretary-General for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States.

21 November 2012: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has announced the appointment of Wu Hongbo, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, as Secretary-General for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
