28 May 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has reported on the signing of grant agreements worth AUD4.44 million with the Government of Australia. The funds will support climate change adaptation activities, as well as an education assessment aimed at improving numeracy and literacy.

22 May 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) held the Pacific roll-out of the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) in Suva, Fiji, on 18 May. The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of energy security in the Pacific region, where 70% of people lack access to electricity and 95% of commercial energy comes from fossil fuels.

9 May 2012: On the second day of the SIDS High-Level Conference on Sustainable Development for All (SE4ALL), which convened in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 7-8 May 2012, delegates from the three SIDS regions – the Pacific, Caribbean and Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, and South China Sea (AIMS) – unanimously adopted the Barbados Declaration, which will be taken to the Rio+20 Conference in June.
