11 May 2012: At the 2012 Forum Trade Ministers’ Meeting (FTMM), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) updated ministers on its trade-related work, including the region’s Traditional Knowledge (TK) Action Plan. Decisions taken by the ministers are contained in the 2012 FTMM Outcomes Document. The FTMM took place on 11 May 2012, in Majuro, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).

14 May 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has announced that US$4 million from the Pacific Environment Community (PEC) has been approved to supplement electricity generation through solar energy on the Federated States of Micronesia’s (FSM’s) dispersed northern Pacific states.
According to PIFS, the project will include the installation of grid-connected solar photovoltaic systems of 150 kilowatt peak in Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. The project is anticipated to contribute 1....

3 May 2012: The Pacific Island Forum Secretariat (PIFS) announced that as part of the Cairns Compact on Strengthening Development Coordination in the Pacific (Forum Compact), a peer review team assessed implementation of its recommendations to the Government of Niue on national planning, budgeting, financial and aid management systems and processes. It also followed up on its 2011 review in Tuvalu.

This meeting is expected to discuss progress of the Secretariat’s Pacific Islands Trade and Invest offices located in Sydney, Auckland, Tokyo and Beijing, which promote trade and investment development throughout the Pacific region. 27 April 2012: A two-day consultation in Nauru was conducted by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the UN, to map out a five-year national action plan on the economic empowerment of women. The consultation sought views from representatives of civil society organisations, government, academia and the informal and formal sectors, who spoke of achieving sustainable development through the economic empowerment of women.
