5 July 2012: The 16th Forum Economic Ministers’ Meeting (FEMM 16) discussed issues relating to economic governance in the Pacific, and concluded with the release of the Forum Economic Action Plan 2012. The Plan addresses, inter alia: implementing the Waiheke Declaration; economic empowerment of women; implementation of the Cairns Compact on Strengthening Development Coordination in the Pacific; progress by the Group of 20 (G20); and climate change resourcing.

29 June 2012: The Council of the Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP) has received a donation of US$500,000 from the Taiwan/ROC Regional Development Assistance Fund for 2011/2012, for the support and implementation of CROP agencies’ regional projects. These projects address education and capacity building, regional aviation safety, fisheries, marine and water management, and the Smaller Island States (SIS) programmes.

The 16th FFEM will consider the implementation of the Waiheke Declaration on Sustainable Economic Development as agreed to by the Forum Leaders in Auckland in 2011. June 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat (PIFS) have released a policy brief on gender policy, targeting Pacific delegates to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio +20).
