2 August 2012: The Nguna-Pele Marine and Land Protected Area network (NPMLPA) announced a new Marine Protected Area (MPA) established on 26 July 2012 by the community of Utanlangi on Nguna Island of Vanuatu. The MPA aims to protect vulnerable marine resources from overharvesting, invasive species, coral breakage by humans, pollution, coral bleaching and other threats.

26 July 2012: Vanuatu has officially notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) that it has ratified its accession package, including terms of membership, thus becoming the 157th member of the WTO. Vanuatu has fully agreed to all WTO provisions, and is not requiring any transitional period except in intellectual property and the publication of trade information. It will become a full-fledged member of the WTO on 24 August 2012.

1 July 2012: The Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project is addressing water issues in the Marshall Islands by installing water meters and improving the Airport Water Reservoir, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has reported.
