28 August 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced the appointment of Tuiloma Neroni Slade, Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), as the inaugural Ocean Commissioner. 27 August 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) held a two-day agro-forestry training for 30 Tonga and ni-Vanuatu agroforestry students in Eua, Tonga, from 23-24 August 2012. The training promoted agroforestry as part of the traditional farming system, where land resources are limited, in order to enhance their productivity and address issues of food security and poverty alleviation among communities.

29 August 2012: The Nguna-Pele Marine and Land Protected Area network (NPMLPA) announced the fourth new Marine Protected Area (MPA) established in the last two months on Vanuatu, with the latest MPA established on 29 August 2012, in the village of Woralapa on Nguna Island.
