December 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has released the results of a two-week surveillance operation, named “Kurukuru 2012,” aimed at detecting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in the Pacific.

14 December 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) launched a publication titled “Catalysing Ocean Finance: Transforming Markets to Restore and Protect the Global Ocean,” in Washington, DC, US. Convened by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), this two-week course is open to participants from the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Marshall Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
