25 July 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention) has reported on a project that is providing off-grid renewable energy to the Aldabra Atoll, a Ramsar and World Heritage Site in Seychelles. The Atoll used to rely on diesel fuel shipped to the island.

5 July 2012: As part of its Acclimate Project, the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) convened a high-level workshop to discuss a draft regional strategy for climate change adaptation for the western Indian Ocean islands. 16 May 2012: Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania, has lodged a membership application with the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), according to a report sponsored by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN).
