30 August 2012: The 43rd Pacific Islands Forum convened in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, from 28-30 August 2012, under the theme of “Large Oceans Island States – the Pacific Challenge.” Issues discussed at the meeting included the outcomes of the recent UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the Oceanscape initiative, climate change, and radioactive contaminants in the Marshall Islands. The 43rd PIF Communique includes the key commitments of Pacific Leaders.

27 August 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) announced the outcomes of the 21st Smaller Island States (SIS) Leaders Meeting, held in Raratonga, the Cook Islands, on 27 August 2012. The meeting took decisions on the SIS Development Fund, financing for climate change, tourism and trade.

21 August 2012: Prime Minister Tillman Thomas of Grenada has been tapped to be the third co-chair of the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA). Thomas will join two other co-chairs, James Michel (Seychelles) and Johnson Toribiong (Palau). Thomas will be represented at UN Headquarters in New York, US and in the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) by Dessima Williams, Permanent Representative of Grenada to the UN.
