30 August 2012: The 43rd Pacific Islands Forum convened in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, from 28-30 August 2012, under the theme of “Large Oceans Island States – the Pacific Challenge.” Issues discussed at the meeting included the outcomes of the recent UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the Oceanscape initiative, climate change, and radioactive contaminants in the Marshall Islands. The 43rd PIF Communique includes the key commitments of Pacific Leaders.

29 August 2012: Seven Pacific Island Countries have exchanged a total of eight Maritime Boundary Agreements, on the sidelines of the 43rd Pacific Islands Forum, which is convening in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, from 28-30 August 2012. The treaties are expected to provide a more accurate and secure basis for the management of the Pacific Ocean, including in the areas of fishing activity, marine environmental protection, marine research and the management and exploration of natural resources....

27 August 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) announced the outcomes of the 21st Smaller Island States (SIS) Leaders Meeting, held in Raratonga, the Cook Islands, on 27 August 2012. The meeting took decisions on the SIS Development Fund, financing for climate change, tourism and trade.

16 August 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published Nauru’s submission on behalf of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) containing its proposed amendments to the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/KP/CMP/2012/2).

The agenda for the First Meeting of the Signatories (MoS1) to the UNEP/CMS Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks includes, inter alia: reports from the first, second and third sharks negotiation meetings; reports from signatories; consideration of a draft conservation plan; and administrative and budgetary matters.
