30 October 2012: Irina Bokova, Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and Jacques Chasteau de Balyon, Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius to UNESCO, signed an agreement to formalize a US$20,000 contribution from Mauritius to UNESCO’s Multi-Donor Emergency Fund. Speaking at the 30 October 2012 signing, Bokova underscored UNESCO’s commitment to helping with the challenges faced by small island developing States (SIDS).

29 September 2012: The Government of Samoa has announced that Pacific representatives have agreed that Samoa will host the Third Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Global Conference, scheduled to convene in 2014, while Fiji will host the preparatory meetings.
