17 September 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), with support from the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the UN (FAO), convened the Regional Workshop on Forest Genetic Resources (FGR) in the Pacific from 4-6 September 2012, in Nadi, Fiji. Participants shared country reports on FGR and developed priorities for action for the Polynesian, Micronesian and Melanesian subregions.

6 September 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), in collaboration with the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD), hosted a training course on monitoring adaptation of coastal fisheries to climate change during the first week of September, in Noumea, New Caledonia. 28 August 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced the appointment of Tuiloma Neroni Slade, Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), as the inaugural Ocean Commissioner. 30 August 2012: The 43rd Pacific Islands Forum convened in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, from 28-30 August 2012, under the theme of “Large Oceans Island States – the Pacific Challenge.” Issues discussed at the meeting included the outcomes of the recent UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the Oceanscape initiative, climate change, and radioactive contaminants in the Marshall Islands.
