Living with a volcano
East New Britain hosts two of the country's most active volcano's Vulcan and
Tavurvur which simultaneously erupted on 19 September 1994 destroying the
provincial capital of Rabaul.

Papua New Guinea's East New Britain Province is part of what is known as the
Pacific ring of fire consisting of active volcanos stretching from Japan to a
number of Pacific Islands including Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Tonga to
name just a few.
East New Britain hosts two of the country's most active volcano's Vulcan and
Tavurvur ( Tuh- voor voor) which simultaneously erupted on 19 September 1994
destroying the provincial capital of Rabaul.
Caroline Tiriman reports that work is continuing to bring back some normalcy
to Rabaul town.
