Sao Tome: Obasanjo Consults UN

President Olusegun Obasanjo is in consultation with the United Nations (UN) 
and key members of the international community to ensure that democracy is 
restored in Sao Tome and Principe.

The President also restated his resolve, during a private meeting between him 
and the President of Sao Tome, Fradique de Meneze, yesterday at the State 
House, to see that constitutionality returns to the country.

In this regard, Obasanjo, according to his spokesperson, Mrs Remi Oyo, has 
also been in consultation with heads of state of Gabon, Congo Brazzaville and 
Angola.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo, also yesterday receive two envoys to Nigeria, shortly 
before he travelled to Cote d'Ivoire for a short visit which borders on 
current issues in the African continent.

The envoys are Major Mohammed Anwar Hossain (rtd) from Bangladesh and Mr 
Nguyen Van Linh from Vietnam.

Obasanjo, while welcoming the envoys at separate audiences, urged them to 
work towards the improvement of economic relations between their respective 
countries and Nigeria.

He, however, expressed the desire of the Federal Government to acquire 
technical expertise from Vietnam in rice production.The president also 
assured the envoys of the Federal Government's co-operation to make their 
tenures in the country successful.

On their part, the envoys promised to further improve on the existing 
relations with Nigeria, adding that it is indeed a great opportunity to serve 
in Nigeria.
