Group Meeting on Mainstreaming and Monitoring the
Mauritius Strategy of Implementation
New York, 27-28 April 2007 |
UN-DESA SIDS Unit convened an Expert
Group Meeting to begin consideration of a framework for
monitoring progress towards the mainstreaming of the Mauritius
Strategy of Implementation (MSI) within the United Nations
system, and for more effective monitoring of SIDS development
plans, integrating the Mauritius strategy as an essential
element in SIDS national and regional development processes.
This initiative is being pursued in response to an increasingly
acknowledged need for a comprehensive and systematic approach
to monitoring implementation of the SIDS sustainable development
agenda. The meeting is intended to facilitate an exchange
of views on the most appropriate structure and focus for
such a mechanism, its scope of coverage and the methodology
for its preparation. DESA envisages the implementation
of a system-wide plan which may integrally be used as
the basis for future planning, programming and coordination
of SIDS-related activities by the UN system, in collaboration
with the SIDS and key intergovernmental partners.
