|
| Introduction |
|
The Inter-Regional Meeting
on the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation was held at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Piazzale della Farnesina, Rome,
Italy from 15 to 16 November 2005. The meeting was followed
by the FAO Conference 19 to 26 November 2005, at the FAO Headquarters.
The purpose of the two-day consultation - to which all Small
Island Developing States (SIDS) and Territories were invited
- was to identify concrete programmes/projects and other actions
to pursue implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation
(MSI) at both the national and regional levels. In paragraph
84 of the MSI, SIDS undertake, with the necessary support
of the international community, including through the facilitation
and improvement of access to existing resources and, where
appropriate through allocation of dedicated financial resources,
to take action in several priority areas in order to address
