SIDSnet is undergoing a complete redesign and revitalization as part of a new project generously funded by the Government of Spain, entitled "Capacity Development through Education for Sustainable Development and Knowledge Management for Small Island Developing States." The project will redevelop SIDSnet, creating a much-needed central knowledge management system to facilitate information sharing and collaboration.

Strategy
SIDSnet will serve as the global platform to coordinate and facilitate the activities related to the sustainable development of SIDS in three key areas:
- Track international meetings and inter-governmental processes related to SIDS.
- Contribute to filling the gaps in data availability by collating national data and statistical information towards assessment of vulnerability-resilience country profiles.
- Facilitate and motivate partnerships across the thematic areas of the BPoA.

Timeline
- GET INVOLVED in the new SIDSnet development process:
SIDS and Partners are encouraged to contact the SIDS Unit to actively participate in the design process in order to maximize the potential of this knowledge management platform and community for all stakeholders. Please contact the SIDS Unit by email to info@sidsnet.org to be included in further SIDSnet-specific updates and to obtain access to the site for evaluation purposes before its official launch.
- May 2011 – September 2011: Testing and regional consultations. Regional consultations will take place to ensure that the community of users will have the opportunity to interact with the site, provide feedback and comments, as well as content. At the same time, usability testing will also take place.
- September 2011: Phase I official launch. The full launch will take place during the 66th General Assembly, at which time all the functionalities of phase one of SIDSnet will be fully operational.
- September 2011 – February 2012: Phase I roll-out. A number of activities will be carried out to maximise user engagement, including on-site country trainings and communication and outreach campaigns.
- February 2012: Launch of Phase II. Phase II will include exciting new Web 2.0 features that will greatly increase opportunities for live interaction among users.

Progress
The SIDSnet project team in the DESA SIDS Unit is finalizing the website information architecture, which involves:
- Planning the functionality and content - such as thematic pages, country profiles and events calendar
- Compiling a rich variety of other SIDS-related resources
All interested partners will soon be able to directly provide inputs to this new platform and bring their added value.
