UN Commission on Sustainable Development
26 February 2007

The first day of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Meeting for the 15th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development featured a SIDS Plenary. Three panelists, Thomas Goreau, Leslie Walling, and Paul Fairbairn, led interactive discussions to outline innovative policy options to support the sustainable development of SIDS. Viable solutions for reducing SIDS’ vulnerability to climate change and air pollution as well as for strengthening their industrial development and access to energy for sustainable development were highlighted.

The CSD at its thirteenth session held in April, 2005, decided that it would devote one day during its review sessions to consider the implementation of BPoA in addition to new developments in the sustainable development of SIDS, focusing on the respective year's thematic cluster. The SIDS Day was held on 8 May 2006, during this year's 14th session of the CSD and therefore focused on the thematic cluster of energy for sustainable development, industrial development, air-pollution, atmostphere and climate change.
